Community Mapping

Community mapping is a consultation methodology where people annotate maps with relevant information.  There are three distinct types of maps:

  • Historical Maps
  • Current Maps
  • Future Maps

Mapping can:

  • help people record and analyse information which is otherwise difficult to do verbally
  • is less reliant upon language, spelling or other literacy skills
  • gives less confident people a chance to have an equal say
  • help to ensure that people’s views are recorded and the geographical detail is retained
